Baltimore Mayor Jack Young said his administration does not carry any responsibility for the elevated and explosive murder rate in his city. In a press conference, Mayor Jack Young said that he and the police chief nor the city council members are not held responsible for murders in the city of Baltimore. Many residents are asking for support, and remember some Trump comments on Twitter that suggested the city was rat and rodent infested. Note that the murder rate in Baltimore is 10 times the national average.
Note that in 2014, the murder rate dropped below 300 but has since risen to levels that rival the very worst days of the city in 1992 and 1993 when murders were at the 353 level. Young says he is not committing the murders and despite other cities seeing a drop in murder, his is increasing. Local families and leaders are calling him out on these comments, saying that the city, already rocked by scandals, is having a leadership crisis.
