The US Democratic Debate was just getting started when Rep Tim Ryan of the great State of Ohio did not put his hand over his heart during the national anthem. Of course many from the right were enraged and went to Twitter, taking shots at the candidate. Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary for George W. Bush, tweeted that Ryan, a Democrat, was “appealing to the Kaepernick wing of the Democratic Party.”
However, a spokesman for Ryan told ABC News (we sourced ABC for this piece from Ella Torres writings), “Congressman Ryan was not protesting and did not mean to make any statement last night in Detroit, it was a moment of absentmindedness while on a debate stage that it will not happen again.”
This is likely just a silly mistake and we believe that he should be given a pass as he said it will not happen again. This seems like a human error that was blown up in the press as the press sells aggressive hate and divides the citizens of the United States (this is our opinion). Finally, it makes sense to listen to the other side of the argument and give someone 48 hours to explain himself or herself, right?
